Private bus operators going to start indefinite strike even after government agreed to increase bus fare and made minimum charge to 5 rs demanding that student’s bus fare should also be hiked. Why they want fare hike for students too even if other passengers are all set to pay sky high fares for the services they are providing? Bus fares in Kerala are supposedly to be the highest in the country still they’re hungry for hike in student’s fare too? Students who are already suffering from the indifferent attitude of bus operators should pay more to get the same treatment? What the hell?
These private bus operators are seeing students with hatred and they deliberately ill treat them, as if students are studying just because bus operators are funding for their education and they can behave as they wish. Some bus operators will not let students sit on the seats even if they’re free, some will not even stop the bus where students are waiting to board, and there is an unwritten rule at most of the private bus stands that students should not board the bus until all the seats in the vehicle are filled and is about to start from the stand. Until that time, these students should wait outside door in queue even if they’ve to wait under hot sun or rain.
Some bus operators are ruder, they’ll make the students wait like that for a long time and then will take off suddenly without any notice. Some boys will still be able to run after those busses and get in somehow but what about girls? This could lead to serious accidents which should be avoided at any cost.
One thing which the government should consider for saving students from this indifferent attitude of private bus operators is to introduce student’s friendly ksrtc busses in large scale in all the existing bus routes and provide an alternate transportation facility for students. At present, student’s concession system is there in ksrtc city bus services in state capital in an effective manner and in other districts the influence of ksrtc bus services itself is really low. If government take necessary action and intensify the students concession scheme and start students only busses (just like ladies only busses) which will operate during school timings covering all existing bus routes, then I’m sure that students will welcome that action whole heartedly and it might even become a solution for the financial crisis which Kerala state road transport corporation is suffering from since ages.
